Duties at the shelter include feeding, cleaning up after, and/or snuggling our seniors as well as bringing them into the yard for some fresh air. Basic cleaning, laundry, and restocking of items into their appropriate locations is required as well. Ability to lift and carry pups as heavy as 40 lbs. up and down a flight of stairs is preferred. We also have a full grooming tub and station, and are always looking for volunteers with grooming experience to give our pups regular spa days. At times (a.k.a. at feeding times when the babes are hangry), this can be a more intense and fast-paced environment and the ability to follow directions as they are given is crucial. We are constantly working to adapt to the routines our seniors need to stay happy and healthy, which change daily. It is imperative that all shelter volunteers keep this in mind and take direction from staff members exactly as instructed. A prior working experience with dogs and a familiarity with dog body language is required. While having your own dog is wonderful, it is not the same as caring for several dogs of varying backgrounds and this requirement is to ensure the safety of both you and our pups. Hours are extremely flexible starting from as early as 6:30 AM until as late as 7 PM, so we appreciate help from people of all schedules and availability.
