VOLUNTEER

At Cannoli's Sweet Life Senior Rescue, every moment matters for our sweet seniors. Our volunteers help make sure each day is the best day! Whether helping out at the shelter where our seniors live or at the adoption center where we show them off to the world, we need loving, responsible, attentive, and detail-oriented humans to help care for the fur babies we take in as if they were their own. Both of our locations are in Glen Head, NY.

Volunteering at the Shelter

Duties at the shelter include feeding, cleaning up after, and/or snuggling our seniors as well as bringing them into the yard for some fresh air. Basic cleaning, laundry, and restocking of items into their appropriate locations is required as well. Ability to lift and carry pups as heavy as 40 lbs. up and down a flight of stairs is preferred. We also have a full grooming tub and station, and are always looking for volunteers with grooming experience to give our pups regular spa days. At times (a.k.a. at feeding times when the babes are hangry), this can be a more intense and fast-paced environment and the ability to follow directions as they are given is crucial. We are constantly working to adapt to the routines our seniors need to stay happy and healthy, which change daily. It is imperative that all shelter volunteers keep this in mind and take direction from staff members exactly as instructed. A prior working experience with dogs and a familiarity with dog body language is required. While having your own dog is wonderful, it is not the same as caring for several dogs of varying backgrounds and this requirement is to ensure the safety of both you and our pups. Hours are extremely flexible starting from as early as 6:30 AM until as late as 7 PM, so we appreciate help from people of all schedules and availability.

Volunteering at the Adoption Center

Duties at the adoption center include welcoming patrons who enter our storefront location and introducing them to whatever pups we have at the center to show that day. Must be comfortable making conversation with strangers, as well as handling dogs of all sizes. Additionally, must be able to accurately remember and recall information on each dog to answer questions patrons may have. Cleanup after any pups who may have had accidents is also required. This is a much slower-paced environment than that of the shelter and is recommended for those looking to do more snuggling and playing as opposed to care-taking. Hours vary daily, but typically range anywhere from 10 AM-6 PM.
